Summary
The Weber County Board approved a package of multi‑year contracts for the county fair, including Spoke's Equestrian Odyssey (2026), multi‑year interactive exhibits (Dino/Engineering/Mythical/Mars Encounters) and a bullfighters contract (2026–2028). Contracts were approved by voice vote after staff highlighted popularity and cost savings from multi‑year deals.
The Weber County Board of Commissioners approved a series of entertainment contracts for upcoming Weber County Fairs during its March 31 meeting.
Ashton Wilson, a Weber County staff member who presented the requests, described a one‑time contract with Spoke's Equestrian Odyssey for the 2026 fair, calling the act “our flagship entertainment for that area” and noting producers would bring multiple horses and ponies from Florida. She said the horse show includes trick performances and is intended to be a major family attraction.
Wilson also asked the board to approve four multi‑year contracts for interactive exhibits: Dino Encounters through 2030; Engineering Encounters for 2029; Mythical Encounters for 2028; and Mars Encounters for 2027. She said an exit survey of 107 respondents indicated “nearly half, if not half, mentioned Dino Encounters by name specifically,” and that committing to multiple years produced a discount from the vendors.
County counsel advised the board it could approve the related contracts in a single motion so long as the minutes clearly listed each item. Commissioner Hart moved approval of the grouped contracts; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote. Commissioners praised the use of local high‑school groups and other community partners in fair operations during the discussion.
The board separately approved a multiyear contract with Bullfighters Only for 2026–2028. Wilson said prices increase slightly across years but that securing the vendor now avoids repeated contract negotiations; she also said the fair will add a monster‑truck event the day before to expand attendance. The motion to approve the bullfighters contract passed by voice vote.
All fair contract motions were approved by voice vote at the March 31 meeting.
