Volunteers collect 569 tires, give away 150 trees; sheriff's department and local volunteers honored

Alan Mincey reported to the commission that the county’s tire recycling event at the Bradley County Justice Center brought in 89 vehicles and yielded 569 tires — the second-largest haul the county has recorded. “We had 89 vehicles come through… we ended up getting 569 tires,” Mincey said, adding that Waste Connections will pick up the roll-off containers and Liberty Recycling in Knoxville will process the tires for reuse.
Mincey and commissioners credited Cleveland stormwater, the county and city stormwater divisions, Waste Connections and numerous volunteers for supporting the event. Commissioner Mason said the county collected a total of 14,520 pounds of litter and thanked volunteers by name for their contributions to the cleanup effort.
Officials also described a tree giveaway at the Irving Road Farmers Market that distributed roughly 150 trees, including red oak and river birch varieties, and highlighted community stewardship awards presented during a luncheon. Recipients included the Bradley County Sheriff's Department and individuals recognized for longtime service; the county also acknowledged work by Olin Corporation on Hiwassee River cleanup efforts.
Officials said the county will continue volunteer-driven cleanups and encouraged community participation at future events.
