Council appoints residents to boards, approves hires and signs off on recreation leases

At its March 17 meeting the Connellsville City Council approved several personnel and board actions and moved to clear a slate of recreation leases.
Council appointed Susan McCarthy to the Diversity & Inclusion Board (term to expire Jan. 2029) and appointed Roger Suter to the municipal authority (term to expire Jan. 2029); both motions passed after seconding. The council also reappointed Nick Kazan to the planning commission with a term expiring Jan. 20, 2030.
On staffing, council authorized hiring Richard Brooks as an ambassador for the Connellsville Visitor Center at a rate of $16 per hour, with the position funded by the Go Laurel Highlands Visitor Center grant. The council also approved multiple seasonal hires for the public works department (Ethan Foley, Will Snyder and others) with funds from line item 430.145.
For recreation operations, the council approved field leases and use permits for girls' softball, the 35-and-over men's league and youth little-league teams at Woodruff Field, Mounds Creek Park and McBoyle Field; motions noted that schedules must be cleared through the Connellsville Recreation Board and that contracts require proof of insurance and, in some cases, payment (fees were stated or marked contingent on contract). Members discussed dugout design to avoid enclosed dugouts at certain parks for safety reasons.
All actions recorded votes and were adopted by the council; contract and insurance paperwork remain to be filed with the city clerk before use.
