Council approves parade and race street closures and a park event permit with alcohol to be authorized pending permits

Connellsville City Council on March 17 signed off on a slate of community events and the temporary street closures they require, while stressing that public-safety chiefs and outside agencies must approve final details.
Council resolved to close specified streets for the Memorial Day parade on May 25, 2026, with lineup and parade times provided and a directive that the police chief, fire chief, public works foreman and PennDOT review and approve the closures. The moderator read the list of affected streets and the motion passed on a roll-call vote.
For a separate event at Yacht Park, organizers sought permission to hold a Yough River rally and to allow beer and wine sales. The council approved the park use request but conditioned alcohol sales on obtaining proper permits from the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board and submission of liability insurance. "Further granting permission to have beer and wine sales with proper permits from the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board pending proper liability insurance is submitted to the city prior to event," the moderator read during the motion.
The council also approved temporary street closures for the New Haven Hose 'Neon Nights' 5K on May 2, 2026, described the race route, and urged organizers to work with police and public works on logistics. Council members characterized the race as a popular family-friendly fundraiser and recorded unanimous votes to permit the events, subject to standard conditions and approvals.
Council directed staff to circulate event flyers via city social media and to coordinate with PennDOT and local public-safety leaders on closures, tow rules and temporary placarding to protect safety and event flow.
