County commissioners ratified a $383,000 contract with Seagull Excavating to demolish a blighted property at 110 Canfield Street in Cambridge Springs Borough; staff said work should start within a couple of weeks pending DEP permitting and notice to proceed.
The Crawford County Board of Commissioners approved a $383,000 contract March 25 with Seagull Excavating to demolish the Cambridge Springs blight project at 110 Canfield Street.
Planning/Community Development staff told the board the contractor will need a permit from the state Department of Environmental Protection and a notice to proceed; staff estimated permitting and notice would take about 10–14 days and said demolition could begin within a couple of weeks. "They will be starting probably within the next couple of weeks," staff said.
The board moved, seconded and approved the contract by roll call.
Why it matters: Demolition of blighted properties is commonly funded through local programs or environmental grants and can affect downtown redevelopment, public safety, and local property values. County staff said this demolition is tied to a Cambridge Springs blight project managed through county programs.
Next steps: County staff will track permit issuance and the contractor’s notice to proceed; the project timetable depends on DEP permitting and contractor scheduling.
