Baldwin Park honors Donate Life Month and recognizes community volunteers

The Baldwin Park City Council on April 1 proclaimed April 2026 as Donate Life Month and recognized local legacy ambassador Jolene Vargas for her work promoting organ, eye and tissue donation.
Abel Casanova, representing Assemblymember Blanca Rubio, presented a certificate of recognition and described the assemblymember's appreciation for 1Legacy's "unwavering commitment" to encourage donations. "My name is Abel, and I am a representative for Assemblymember Blanca Rubio's office," Casanova said while presenting the certificate on behalf of the assemblymember.
Jolene Vargas spoke of her personal experience with donors: "Because of my 3 donors, I have had 33 years of extra life," she said, and thanked the city for the recognition.
Council Member Alejandra Avila read the proclamation and encouraged residents to register as donors. The city also accepted a recognition for Cecilia Bernal, who received the 48th District Woman of the Year Award from Assemblymember Rubio; Bernal thanked the council and described her volunteer work with the city's recreation and community services department and the Eastside Little League.
The proclamations were ceremonial recognitions; no council action was required or taken beyond adoption of the proclamations and certificates.
