Students and staff from Sierra Vista Unified School District presented fine‑arts programming to the governing board during National Youth Arts Month, describing classroom and extracurricular offerings and student capstone work for the Arizona Arts Proficiency Seal.
Fine‑arts coordinator Mrs. Weller told the board that elementary Explore Art and Music rotates on a six‑day schedule, that elementary band and outreach programs bring students to Buena High School for performances, and that Buena offers multiple choirs, band ensembles and theater opportunities. "Fine arts really can touch our entire student achievement," Mrs. Weller said, framing arts participation as connected to academic outcomes.
Students described recent competitive and capstone work: Kaelin Copas said 10 students are working toward the Arizona Arts Proficiency Seal and some will receive a double seal in two disciplines; Sophie Hebnis and Sage Miner summarized district participation in state and regional theater and music events. The presentation highlighted upcoming performances (including a student‑run production of "6") and a Fine Arts Convocation scheduled for May 19 to honor seniors.
Board members thanked students and staff for the presentation and for showcasing student achievements. The item was informational; no board action was taken.
