The Bernalillo County Commission voted unanimously on March 24 to accept and budget a $2,930,000 grant from the New Mexico Finance Authority to support infrastructure for the Aldea Del Rio housing project.
Brian Lopez, Technical Services Director for Public Works, said the funds will pay for critical infrastructure — roadway construction, water and sewer work, utilities, right‑of‑way acquisition and other necessary improvements — to support a 128‑unit affordable multifamily development located in District 2 near Rio Bravo and Second Street. Lopez said the project is under site control, has been rezoned and master‑planned, and that design is anticipated to be completed by 2027.
Lopez told commissioners approximately $950,000 had previously been approved and budgeted for the project; the new request adds $2.93 million in grant funding. County staff described coordination with Yes Housing and the New Mexico Department of Transportation; the county manager explained the state secretary packaged various housing funding buckets to accelerate infrastructure investments.
The commission approved the financial resolution to budget the grant by voice vote; staff said proceeding with infrastructure will allow the housing development to move forward.
