Caledonia Community Schools staff presented a preliminary estimate of $189,905.12 to outfit eight identical pre-K classrooms as part of the district’s effort to expand preschool services.
Staff said Kent ISD provided shopping lists and that the district compared those to existing furnishings in a recently opened GSRP classroom to shape specifications. The district expects Kent ISD may leave some furniture behind when ISD teams depart, which could reduce the district’s final purchase obligation by the equivalent of up to two classrooms. Staff indicated they will evaluate the ISD’s contribution and return with a refined cost next month.
Board members emphasized the importance of involving teachers currently conducting pre-K classes in layout and furniture choices to ensure the rooms meet instructional needs. No final purchase vote occurred on March 16; the item remains under evaluation for a future meeting.
