Paris Ridge Elementary boiler failure prompts RFP for replacement

District staff reported a critical failure of one of two boilers at Paris Ridge Elementary; the board was told one unit has a cracked heat exchanger and staff issued an RFP to replace both boilers and scheduled a pre-bid meeting.
Caledonia Community Schools staff informed the board that one of the two boilers at Paris Ridge Elementary has developed a critical failure in the heat exchanger assembly and has been in service since 2009.
Staff recommended replacing both boilers rather than repairing only the failed unit, citing the remaining unit’s near end of life and the long-term benefits of upgrading to more efficient models. An RFP was issued and a pre-bid meeting scheduled; staff said the building can continue to operate on the remaining boiler in the short term and that installation is likely to occur over the summer.
Board members asked whether the building currently has heat; staff replied it does and explained the building alternates systems and is designed to operate on a single boiler temporarily. Staff framed the replacement as an opportunity to step up efficiency and reduce long-term maintenance risk.
The board heard the report and staff indicated they expect bid responses following the pre-bid meeting.
