The presenter described a lifecycle approach that replaces roughly 20% of devices annually so students keep the same Chromebook through multiple grades; the district intends to order Lenovo Chromebooks through the REMC statewide contract (low bid) and place the order after board approval in April for deployment over the summer. The presenter noted a 99% return rate for devices at the end of senior year and described the district’s reuse process for retired devices and parts.
Staff cautioned about possible supply constraints at the manufacturer or contract level and said the district will accept devices as they become available. Board members asked questions about collection and retention practices; staff responded the district collects devices at the end of the school year and keeps spare units for new students during the year.
The item will return to the board for formal approval on April 20, 2026, with procurement details and quantities to be presented then.
