Council approves purchase of Front Street section and final plat for Huisingay subdivision

The Maasau City Council on March 23 approved a resolution to acquire a section of Front Street from property owner Roger Huisingay and separately adopted an ordinance approving the final plat for the Huisingay subdivision.
City staff and a consultant said the parcel contains utilities and is the only access to a lift station adjacent to the tracks, making the acquisition necessary to maintain pavement, sewer, stormwater and water-main infrastructure. "The negotiated amount to acquire the real estate is not to exceed $16,520," said David C. Rankin, PLS of Rankin Land Surveying, who presented the background and planning documents to the council.
Council members moved and seconded both measures and approved them by roll call. The resolution to accept the parcel and direct the city administrator to execute the contract was adopted after council discussion and a roll call vote. The ordinance approving the final plat for the Huisingay subdivision — which is located less than one mile outside the city limits and requires council approval under Chapter 152 of the Municipal Code — was also approved; staff said no public improvements are required for the plat and access will come from the newly acquired Front Street right-of-way.
