Students demo drone soccer club as district honors parent volunteers

Superintendent Dr. Clark opened the presentations by recognizing parent volunteers from across the district and presenting certificates and gift cards sponsored by IKEA to Maria Clotier (Arlington Elementary), Megan McDaniel (Donaldson Elementary), Brandy Murphy (Arlington Middle School) and Desiree Condrey (Arlington High School). "Good evening and congratulations," Dr. Clark said while introducing honorees.
Following the awards, students from Arlington Elementary introduced the ACS Aviators drone soccer club. A student presenter described the club's application process, safety practices and game format: players use call signs, wear protective goggles, rotate batteries during three‑minute rounds and play offense and defense roles such as striker and keeper. "In our drone soccer club, we learn how to fly drones, collaborate and work as a team, and learn about careers that use drones," a student said.
Superintendent Clark noted the club was supported by the district's Legacy Grant program, saying the drone club required significant equipment funding. The presentation also thanked Zoom and Haas and club sponsors Overby and Hinton. Students said a parent showcase will take place at the club's final meeting next week so families can see demonstrations and try drone soccer.
The board and superintendent framed the recognition and student demonstrations as examples of community engagement and hands‑on learning. The meeting then moved on to routine business and consent items.
