The Abington Board of School Directors on March 24 authorized administration to enter into a three-year agreement with BSI Corporate Benefits to provide consultative services on the district’s employee benefits program.
Miss Taylor told the board that rising health-care costs have significantly affected both the district and employees and said over the last four years the district had experienced a roughly 150% increase in its health-care budget. She described BSI’s proposed services as including financial reviews, market evaluations, performance reporting, analytics, carrier-risk mitigation, and a new staff-facing platform (Benefits App) and advocacy services (Healthiest You).
Board members asked how savings and progress would be measured; Taylor said the district would meet with BSI on an ongoing basis, capture metrics tied to initiatives the district chooses, and report back to the board. She said the district expected the consulting expense to be exceeded by cost avoidance on the health-care budget and that the contract includes language that would allow the district to exit the agreement if expectations are not met.
By roll call the board approved the three-year contract. Administrators said they plan quarterly reporting and communications to employees about how the new services will be rolled out.
