Mayor William Jacobs read two proclamations declaring April 2026 as Sexual Assault Awareness Month and Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month in Garden City, highlighting prevention, survivor support and community partnerships.
The sexual-assault proclamation cited statewide prevalence statistics and called for public awareness, training for assault nurse examiners and timely forensic-kit processing to support investigations and justice for survivors. The child-abuse proclamation cited Idaho reporting totals from 2025, emphasized the role of families and community supports in prevention, and identified the blue pinwheel as a national symbol of child-wellness awareness.
