Summary
Saginaw County Administrator Mary Catherine Hanna introduced a county master plan initiative and new deputy county administrator Gilbert Ramirez, saying the county selected a vendor and will begin outreach and open houses this spring; the county also plans to pursue grants in coordination with municipalities.
County Administrator Mary Catherine Hanna visited the Village of Saint Charles council meeting to introduce herself, preview a countywide master plan effort and introduce Gilbert (Gil) Ramirez as deputy county administrator for special projects and grants.
Hanna said the county has not had a county-level master plan in the records she reviewed and emphasized the importance of coordinating planning conversations among neighboring communities: “I do think it's really important that we try to have as many conversations as we can with our neighbors about what is going on at a planning and zoning level,” she said. She noted the county selected a vendor for the project and that outreach, including open houses, will begin in spring and early summer to solicit local input.
Gilbert Ramirez (S7), who the county introduced as deputy county administrator for special projects and grants, described his background in grant writing and administration and offered to meet with municipal officials to identify funding opportunities. He said he and county staff would help connect communities to appropriate grants and technical assistance.
The county administrators encouraged municipalities to engage in the outreach and to coordinate where projects are appropriate, and said they would return updates as the master plan outreach progresses.
