Adelanto reports blight cleanup, wastewater upgrades and major street rehabilitation plans

At its Sept. 24 meeting, the Adelanto City Council heard progress updates from the City Manager on neighborhood blight abatement, wastewater-treatment improvements and a planned two-mile rehabilitation of Seneca Street.
City Manager highlighted the newly launched blight abatement work and recognized Julio Cesar Chavez for leading neighborhood cleanups and addressing illegal dumping; before-and-after photos were shown to illustrate immediate improvements. "This effort not only improves safety, but also enhances beautification and community pride," the City Manager said.
On utilities, staff said lift-station and blower upgrades at the wastewater treatment plant are complete and that removing a dividing berm restored a pond’s percolation capacity, improving the plant’s reliability. "The new lift station is fully operational," the City Manager said.
Engineering staff reported that design work for Seneca Street — from Highway 395 to Astor Road, roughly two miles — is underway, with design completion scheduled for October and a request for proposals anticipated in early November; construction is expected to finish by early next year. The engineering team also initiated surveying and a hydrology report for the Chamberlain/Astor intersection to support a new storm drain system to reduce flooding.
City Manager also told the council that renovations to council chambers will begin Dec. 19 with reopening expected in March, and that meetings may temporarily move to the senior center or stadium during construction.
Council members thanked staff and volunteers for the work and asked for continued updates as RFPs and construction schedules advance.
