Amanda Gerke, a member of the City of Alameda’s economic development division, on the city’s grant briefing said the Special Events Permit Grant was created to help event organizers meet local permitting requirements and cover related costs. "This program was initially approved by city council in September 2023," Gerke said, and the City expects to award 10 to 15 grants each year "of up to $20,000."
The grant covers two general award types: no-cost city services and technical assistance (for example, staff time to process permits, police security or no-cost inspections) and reimbursements for external costs the City cannot provide (for example, engineering for traffic control plans, private security or event greening services).
