Adelanto council adopts 2025 California building-code updates

The Adelanto City Council adopted Ordinance No. 659 on Nov. 12, approving local amendments that incorporate the 2025 California building, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, fire, residential, green building and energy codes.
Gary, the city’s building official, told the council the amendments align local regulations with state standards and update structural safety, energy-efficiency measures and accessibility rules. “The amendment strengthens structural safety, improve energy efficiency, and enhance fire and life safety provisions,” he said during the presentation.
Council members asked no substantive questions and no members of the public commented on the item during the hearing. The council moved, seconded and voted to adopt the ordinance as presented.
Why it matters: Local adoption of the statewide building standards ensures Adelanto’s construction rules reflect current safety and sustainability practices and adds provisions referenced for electric-vehicle infrastructure and updated accessibility guidelines. Adopting the local amendments avoids a compliance gap between state code changes and the city’s municipal code.
