Manhattan Beach honors volunteers and 142 long‑standing businesses

The Manhattan Beach ceremonial meeting on Jan. 20 included recognition for volunteer groups that support the city's annual Santa float and a presentation of long‑standing business awards.
A Kiwanis representative thanked the community and volunteers and said the Santa float program requires roughly 3,000 volunteer hours each year, noting that officers and lead volunteers together staffed routes, managed safety and coordinated parking to keep the sleigh moving. "We could not do this without, the support of everyone involved. It is too big of a project for 1 public service organization to take on," the presenter said.
Finance staff introduced the long‑standing business recognition program. Emmy Rose Hanna, financial services manager, said staff added a 75‑year milestone and now recognize nine milestone categories (5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 40, 50 and 75+ years). Hanna said 142 businesses qualified this past year and that certificates for many shorter‑term categories (5, 10, 15 years) will be mailed to recipients.
Council members and staff called forward representatives from multiple businesses—ranging from local restaurants and retailers to hotels and service providers—to accept certificates and pose for photos, and the mayor offered thanks to the business community for its role in Manhattan Beach's local economy and neighborhood life.
The ceremonial meeting concluded after the awards sequence and the chair adjourned the session ahead of the regular 6:00 p.m. meeting.
