The Adelanto City Council approved a $10,000 sponsorship to Community Action Partnership (CAP) for its 60th-anniversary gala, voting Aug. 27 to purchase the organization’s 'silver advocate' package that includes four tickets, on-screen recognition, a full-page ad and six months of website recognition.
Council members discussed whether the city’s benefit-corp balance could accommodate the sponsorship alongside upcoming events such as the Christmas parade and Movies in the Park. City staff said the benefit-corp currently holds about $25,000 before expected auction proceeds are allocated; staff also noted the city recently held an auction that raised an estimated $70,000–$75,000 that will be allocated at a future council meeting.
Supporters said CAP has historically provided crucial food-bank and anti-hunger services in Adelanto during emergencies and routinely serves local residents. "They showed up to the stadium and provided very much needed food bank for our residents that were heavily negatively impacted by the COVID pandemic," the city manager said in support.
After debate about priorities and available funds, a motion to approve the $10,000 sponsorship passed by voice vote.
