Community development report highlights Amazon distribution center ribbon cutting and local park projects

City Community Development staff updated the Planning Commission on recent economic development and parks activity, including a recently completed Amazon distribution center, a sports-park groundbreaking and upcoming park design work.
Staff reported that the Amazon facility had a ribbon-cutting on Feb. 25 and described the building as roughly 635,000 square feet on the first floor (about 700,000 square feet including mezzanine space), containing approximately 15 miles of conveyor and hiring about 1,400 workers so far with a goal of up to 2,000 hires. Staff said required traffic-signal and other improvements were completed prior to full operations.
On parks, staff said a groundbreaking occurred for the new Eagles Sports Park on Hacienda Avenue and that the city is designing a roughly 6-acre community park adjacent to Skybourne, with resident engagement planned to define uses. Staff also reported ongoing interest in the Miracle Hill Spa zone for potential hospitality and resort-type projects.
Commissioners asked to be added to ribbon-cutting invitations for major events and asked whether a masonry wall would be included in the design adjacent to the city yard for the sports complex; staff said they would add commissioners to PR lists and would follow up with the masonry-wall detail or bring it to a future agenda item.
The Community Development update provided context on recent large-scale private investment and local parks planning; no formal action was taken on these items during the meeting.
