Campbell council okays $27,000 from preservation fund for Heritage Theater repairs

The City Council approved a budget adjustment on Dec. 25 to use preservation-enhancement funds from the Heritage Theater for immediate maintenance: a rigging inspection, cleaning and application of fire-retardant to the main stage drape, and replacement of two failing motorized blackout shades inside the auditorium.
Recreation Community Services Director Natasha Bisson told the council the preservation enhancement fee has built a fund that currently has an unaudited balance of about $180,000, and staff is requesting just under $27,000 for the three items. Bisson said two of the motorized blackout shade panels have been failing and getting stuck in the roofers so they no longer deploy consistently.
Council members thanked staff for establishing the fund in 2004 and for the careful use of the balance for scheduled equipment replacement. No members of the public spoke on this item. The council moved and voted to approve the staff recommendation; the motion passed by unanimous roll call.
Staff said the repairs are intended to preserve the facility and avoid larger capital costs later; the work will proceed following typical procurement and scheduling steps for theater equipment.
