Montclair honors 15 volunteers at annual Community Activities Commission awards

Montclair’s City Council and the Community Activities Commission recognized 15 community volunteers at a ceremony during the council meeting, celebrating contributions to senior services, youth sports, shelter programs and community health.
The Community Activities Commission chairperson, Richard Escalante, opened the program and summarized the commission’s 37-year tradition of honoring local volunteers. “Valuable is the work you do,” Escalante told the honorees as he introduced recipients across multiple service areas.
The awards highlighted a senior-companion volunteer who has supported homebound seniors since 2013; volunteers for the Christian Development Center, including Brandon Joyner and Tina Wiley; and Bridgette Day for steady service to the Montclair Senior Nutrition Program. Escalante also recognized Jose Flores for regular support at the Montclair Senior Center, coach Keith Robinson for 32 years with the Montclair Youth Basketball League, and Kim Case for work with Foothill Family Shelter.
A team of doctors who mentor and treat underserved patients at the Montclair Medical Clinic — including Dr. Bridal Loveless and Dr. Mindy Chilman — were named for their role training Western University health-science students and supporting residents who face barriers to care. Escalante noted Krista Lund was unable to attend.
Mayor Pro Tem Martinez and council members thanked the Community Activities Commission and invited honorees, dignitaries and guests to a post-ceremony reception. The council’s recognition underscores the range of volunteer-run services that support seniors, youth and public health in Montclair.
The ceremony concluded with a short reception for honorees and their guests.
