Planning Commission grants 1-year extension for downtown mobile food vending park

The Planning Commission of the City of Desert Hot Springs on July 8 approved a one-year time extension for the development permit (DP 231) for a proposed mobile food vending vehicle park in the downtown commercial zone.
Assistant Planner Eva Lara told commissioners the project — approved on June 27, 2023 — proposes three concrete pads for food trucks, an on-site ADA-compliant restroom, storage containers and a stage for occasional live events. She said the applicant filed Time Extension TTE 25-1 on April 14, 2025, and that under Desert Hot Springs Municipal Code section 17.92.0.070 applicants may request one-year extensions, not to exceed three years total.
No members of the public spoke against the extension during the public hearing. After a brief procedural exchange the commission moved and voted to grant the extension unanimously.
The extension means the development permit’s expiration is now set for 06/27/2026; staff noted the applicant remains eligible to request up to two additional one-year extensions in the future, subject to commission approval.
