Code compliance reports 114 service requests, $22,000 in citations for month

Tyler presented the code compliance monthly report, saying that in February the unit opened 114 cases, completed 333 inspections, issued 115 notices of violation and issued 39 citations totaling about $22,000.
"So for the month of February 2026, code compliance took a total of 114 service requests...We issued 39 citations totaling $22,000," Tyler said.
Commissioners asked whether the unit conducts proactive patrols or relies on resident complaints. Tyler said the office currently operates mostly reactively because of staff limits; occasional proactive responses happen when inspectors notice emerging issues. A commissioner asked whether citation revenue returns to the department; Tyler said it does not and that it is deposited into the general fund because using fines as revenue would be improper.
Tyler also noted that photo documentation in reports is limited by temporary staff shortages and that a management analyst who normally helps compile synopses is on medical leave, which has constrained reporting detail. Commissioners thanked staff and moved on to the police report without taking formal code-enforcement action.
