Rohnert Park’s council opened its Oct. 14 meeting with community recognitions that included a sister-city presentation from delegates who visited Hashimoto, Japan; a mayoral proclamation for Filipino American History Month; and a proclamation recognizing World Polio Day.
Delegates Teresa Molino and Danny Kingsbury presented photos and gifts from a recent visit to Hashimoto and read a letter from Hashimoto’s mayor, Tetsuro Hiraki, expressing continued goodwill and interest in student exchanges and cultural programs. The delegation said Hashimoto rolled out a red‑carpet welcome and hosted visits to local temples and cultural sites.
Armie Rivera, owner of the Kabayan Filipino market, thanked the council for supporting the store and invited residents to visit; councilmembers praised the market’s role in representing Filipino culture locally and noted plans by some elected officials to visit the store during upcoming events.
The council also proclaimed Oct. 24, 2025 as World Polio Day. Wolf Reinhold, secretary of the local Rotary Club, described Rotary’s Polio Plus program and noted the worldwide decline in polio cases; he said there had been 35 cases year-to-date, concentrated in Afghanistan and Pakistan, and urged community support and donations.
Councilmembers used the recognitions to highlight cultural exchange, community small-business contributions and ongoing public-health work in partnership with nonprofit groups.
