At a meeting of a Campbell youth commission on Tuesday evening, members and staff finalized plans for a community open house on March 7 and confirmed volunteer shifts for ‘Story Time with Santa’ on Dec. 5.
Alex, the commission’s staff liaison, said the open house will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and laid out staggered station times so subcommittees would not overlap: “life skills, civic engagement, career building subcommittee…10:15 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and then the teen wellness, fitness and recreation subcommittee…11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.,” Alex said, adding there would be a 15-minute turnover window between groups.
The schedule was presented as a way to keep stations from competing for space and to allow time for set-up and cleanup. A commission member raised concerns that an hour-long activity block with three 20-minute games could create tight transitions; staff suggested pre-setting stations in the gym or arriving early to ensure at least two activities could be staged simultaneously.
Subcommittees reported progress on outreach and publicity. The wellness team has compiled a list of potential sponsors (including requests for gift cards), and the community subcommittee has drafted posters and history-themed trivia handouts. Members said they plan in-person visits to local businesses (Row House, Cresta) to solicit support and will share Canva designs with staff for approval before posting.
Staff emphasized the commission’s content-approval workflow and recordkeeping: members should save and forward any source websites used in posts so staff can retain works-cited information and review materials prior to publication. “Please make sure that you’re once you’re done with [a Canva design], that you’re sharing it with me,” Alex said.
The commission also confirmed volunteer sign-ups and shifts for Story Time with Santa on Dec. 5. Two shifts were listed: an early shift (6:30–8:30 a.m.) and an afternoon shift (2–4 p.m.). Members were asked to notify Alex in advance if they cannot attend and to check the commission Slack channel for updates and location details.
Members set the next meeting for Dec. 15 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Staff noted a room-code discrepancy in the calendar (E44) and said they would confirm the meeting room in Slack. The meeting was adjourned at 7:25 p.m.
