The Portola Valley Conservation Committee agreed to form a small subcommittee to plan outreach for California Native Plant Month (April) after a Town Council member asked the committee for ideas and possible participation by Woodside Elementary School.
Chair said the school expressed interest in doing something during the month and asked whether the committee could offer ideas or materials. Committee members suggested modest, attainable efforts such as a weekly forum post series, a coordinated 'Tip of the Month' focused on natives, or partnering with the California Native Plant Society to leverage existing educational resources. Committee member (S3) said the California Native Plant Society already publishes events and resources in April and the committee could "piggyback" on those materials.
The committee agreed to form a subcommittee and Chair recruited at least one volunteer (voice S6) to help lead planning and outreach efforts; the committee emphasized keeping the effort achievable so it does not overburden volunteers.
Next steps recorded in the meeting: the subcommittee will coordinate messaging for the town newsletter and the committee's forum posts, prepare a short summary of actions and resources for distribution, and work with town staff as needed to integrate materials into the town newsletter and website.
