The Desert Hot Springs City Council voted unanimously on Feb. 3 to provide a $25,000 sponsorship to 1 Future Coachella Valley to support programs aimed at college and career readiness for local students.
Staff described the requested $25,000 package as divided into $15,000 for education and career pathway enhancements, $5,000 for the 'Future Is Ours' event and direct scholarships, and $5,000 for an education enrichment fund that leverages regional matching. Staff reported that the fiscal year 2025‑26 adopted budget had already appropriated $25,000 for this purpose.
Kim McNulty, representing 1 Future, highlighted program outcomes and returned‑to‑community examples, including a recent scholar completing a PA master's program who plans to serve in the Desert. McNulty also invited council and residents to the KidWind STEM event at Desert Hot Springs High School on Feb. 21.
Council moved, seconded and voted to approve the sponsorship; the motion passed unanimously.
Next steps: staff will implement the sponsorship agreement and coordinate with 1 Future on program delivery and reporting to the council.
