Council extends city manager’s contract three years, approves small deferred-comp increase

Rohnert Park — The City Council on March 24 adopted a resolution approving a second amendment to City Manager Marcela Piedra’s employment agreement, extending her term and increasing deferred compensation by 1%.
The city attorney summarized the two changes: an extension of the manager’s term by three years to January 3, 2028, and a one-percent increase to deferred compensation that translates to "a little over $3,000 less than $4,000" a year, the attorney said. The city attorney also noted that there is no cost-of-living increase in the amendment.
Councilmembers spoke in support of Piedra’s leadership and management approach. One councilmember who helped hire Piedra said the contract amendment "is a testament to her character," and other members praised her decision earlier to freeze salary increases as part of broader fiscal restraint.
The council moved and adopted the resolution approving the second amendment; the vote was 5-0. There were no public comments on the item.
