“Our department's commitment to public safety is strong and these individuals bring the dedication, expertise, and passion that will help us continue providing excellent emergency services to our community,” Acting Fire Chief Ryan Derrick said as he introduced the hires and the promotion.
Derrick provided brief biographical backgrounds for each new employee: Hernandez trained at Chaffey College and Victor Valley College and worked with AMR; Gonzalez holds a public‑health degree from Cal State LA and completed paramedic training at Victor Valley; Tercios has experience as a paramedic and with San Bernardino County Fire. The chief said Joseph O'Neil, promoted to fire engineer, was unable to attend and the council displayed his photo in recognition.
The council and mayor offered congratulations on the department’s staffing updates. Mayor Dutre thanked the new employees and praised the Montclair Fire Department for keeping residents safe.
The council did not take a formal vote on the personnel introductions; the presentations were ceremonial and informational. Chief Derrick said the new and promoted staff will support medical responses, firefighting and rescue operations throughout Montclair.
