Desert Hot Springs Public Safety Commission elects Walt Meyer chair, Donna Lozano vice chair

On Feb. 12, 2026, the Desert Hot Springs Public Safety Commission voted to elect Commissioner Walt Meyer as chair and Commissioner Donna Lozano as vice chair.

Motions to nominate Meyer and Lozano were made from the floor and carried on a roll-call vote. The commission’s vote was recorded as unanimous. The commission then approved the meeting agenda and moved into the scheduled reports.

Meyer, speaking after the vote, thanked the commission and described plans to streamline agenda requests, asking staff to circulate a contact number so commissioners can more easily place items on future agendas. "I thank you very much for your your trust and faith in me. And, we'll try to make sure this all runs smooth," he said, adding that he looked forward to new ideas and doing “some good for everybody.”

Donna Lozano, who had served as chair at the meeting start and was elected vice chair in the same proceeding, responded to the vote by saying she “wholeheartedly agree[d]” with the direction and thanked colleagues. Commissioners also discussed whether the city attorney should brief the commission on agenda procedures; Meyer proposed having the attorney or staff give a short orientation if commissioners wanted guidance on placing items.

The election resets the commission’s leadership for the coming year and clarifies who will be responsible for running future meetings and agenda management. The commission then proceeded to staff reports and public-safety updates.

The meeting adjourned after routine commissioner reports and a reminder from the chair to file Form 700 disclosures.
