Allied Universal managers on Saturday outlined the company’s security ambassador program for the City of West Hollywood, describing training, accountability systems and how the ambassadors link residents and visitors to services.
Matthew Prokopovich, regional director of operations, said the program combines standard state training with community-specific modules that include LGBTQ+ sensitivity training, opioid-overdose response and guidance for interacting with people experiencing homelessness. "We have our standard state level training package... and then we have our specific training for this community and its special needs," Prokopovich said.
Al Gonzalez, client manager, described the company’s Helios operations platform and how it is used to track compliance, trends and produce reports. Gonzalez also noted an expanded communications channel: the city’s new security-ambassador number (323-848-6500) is available for calls and texts and the City of West Hollywood app includes a link to contact the program.
Valerie Chavez, general manager, said ambassadors wear distinct uniforms (kiosk and rover ambassadors in yellow/black; leads in white/black; SSO in all black) and work alongside the sheriff, fire and code-enforcement partners to provide visible presence, deter unwanted activity and connect people to housing, transportation and mental-health services.
City officials present said the ambassador workforce consists of roughly 85 full-time positions and that the program contract in the prior budget year was a little over $5.7 million. Allied managers said the program uses a mix of virtual instruction, in-person training, on-the-job learning and scenario-based exercises to ensure compliance and readiness.
The presentation emphasized accountability and transparency through technology and regular reporting; Allied also highlighted upcoming public events where ambassadors will be deployed, including AIDS Walk LA and the LA Marathon.
