Detective Acosta of the Lomita station gave the council a rundown of recent residential burglaries and related enforcement activity in Rancho Palos Verdes.
Highlights from the report included a Feb. 8 felony residential burglary on Ocean Air where deputies arrested a female suspect after the homeowners awoke and called 911; a January incident in which surveillance captured three hooded suspects who entered via a shattered rear glass slider and caused an estimated $5,000 in loss; an attempted entry reported on Quailwood Drive where only a handprint on a bedroom window was found; and a Feb. 15 burglary on Sea Urchin in which a transient-appearing female was on camera inside the home for roughly 15 minutes before leaving with items.
Detective Acosta said ongoing steps include undercover SAT team surveillance at identified areas, follow-up on leads from recorded footage, and coordination with detectives to identify and locate suspects. He urged residents to lock doors and report suspicious activity to deputies.
"Deputies located and detained the suspect in the bathroom," Detective Acosta related when describing the Ocean Air arrest, illustrating the kind of evidence and response in recent cases. He added that investigations are ongoing on multiple incidents and that some identifications have been made using records and video.
The city manager and council thanked deputies for the station report and encouraged residents to be vigilant and make use of available public-safety resources. No formal action was taken; the report was informational.
