Council OKs engineering task order to design Mill Fire-area street repairs

The Weed City Council authorized staff to enter Task Order 2024-07 with PACE Engineering to design full street rehabilitation in Lincoln Heights following fire damage.
Public works director Davis explained the task order will let engineers "come up with a design to replace every road that's in Lincoln Heights" and that funding will come from Fund 37. He told council the work was not previously budgeted but is necessary so the roads can be repaved next summer.
Council members asked whether pavements will be removed down to dirt and whether all streets require full reconstruction; Davis said engineers will determine the extent after testing, noting some asphalt was damaged by oil extracted from the asphalt during the fire. The motion to authorize the task order was moved, seconded and carried.
Staff said they will proceed with design work and anticipate returning with contract documents and cost estimates to allow construction next season.
