Weed council votes to return mobile-home and RV park oversight to state

City Manager Baker told the council the change would save local staff resources and allow state specialists to handle inspections. He said the city will issue a 90-day notice and transfer records for existing parks and pending projects to state authorities.
Baker acknowledged the transition may not be seamless: "We are in contact ... to try to smooth that transition. We haven't reached the point yet where I can tell you that it will be a smooth transaction," he said. Council members pressed staff on recent on-site work, and staff reported that some sewer and storm-drain installations are in progress for certain RV-park projects.
Travis Owens, who introduced himself during public comment as a local business owner planning an event, asked whether returning oversight to a potentially overburdened state agency is in businesses’ best interest and urged that the parks "do need to be regulated correctly" so families who stay there are safe.
Council members said the city lacks sufficient inspection staffing and that specialized state resources may ensure more consistent inspections. The council approved second reading and adoption by title only on a motion that carried.
The ordinance directs staff to provide records and a 90-day notice to affected park operators and to coordinate with the state on inspection schedules and the transition of ongoing projects.
