Planning staff reports moratorium extension, staffing hires and calendar changes

Director Eastwood told the Campbell Planning Commission on Feb. 24 that the City Council extended the city’s moratorium on smoke shops at its Feb. 3 hearing for one year and that the moratorium will remain in effect until a permanent ordinance is drafted.
Eastwood also said city hiring is addressing a staffing shortfall in building inspection and that recruitment for a building inspector is wrapping up, which should improve permit-review capacity. "We're completing a building inspector recruitment," Eastwood said.
The director flagged a calendar conflict: the council moved its March meeting to March 24, which falls on the planning commission’s regular second/ fourth-Thursday slot. Eastwood asked the commission to consider alternate dates (March 17 or March 31) if items require a March meeting.
Finally, Eastwood reminded commissioners that a vacancy on the planning commission is posted and open through April; he encouraged qualified residents to apply. He also reported that he forwarded the commission’s prior public-outreach recommendations to the council ahead of the council’s upcoming priority-setting session.
The commission did not take formal action on these staff items; they were reported for information and scheduling.
