Starpoint students showcase inventions at Inventathon; board and community applaud

Fifth graders Carol Liddell and Harper McCaffrey demonstrated the "Easy Warmer," a device to hold bait steady while threading a hook. Fourth-grade inventors Roman Polini and Jack Rabiner showcased a "chicken wing de-bone" tool designed to remove meat easily. Third-grader Reagan Williams showed "Bug-o-las," a device intended to prevent insects from getting into drinks.
Advisers and attendees praised the students' communication and design thinking. "They were like they were on Shark Tank," one adviser said, and multiple board members and community participants encouraged the students to pursue further development, with one attendee urging parents to consider patents for promising ideas.
The Inventathon involved about 80 student inventors on Feb. 26, according to advisers, and was organized by school staff and volunteers.
Next steps: advisers said they will leave information and brochures about the projects and encourage community members to view student displays.
