Jake, a representative of Palm Springs International Airport, presented an economic‑impact study the airport commissioned that used FY2024 data and 10‑year projections through 2034 for planned capital improvements.
According to the presentation, the airport generated more than $2.5 billion in economic activity last year across aviation, hospitality and related services and supported more than 18,000 jobs. Jake said those on‑site and supply‑chain workers received about $864 million in labor income, and PSP travelers accounted for roughly $1.1 billion in visitor spending. The airport reportedly returned about $382 million in tax revenue to local, county, state and federal governments.
Looking ahead to capital projects tied to a terminal expansion — a new concourse (phase 1) with seven new gates, a consolidated rental car center and a federal inspection station to expand international capability — Jake said the airport expects 9,800 construction jobs over the next 10 years, $1.8 billion in future economic impact, $641 million in wages from those projects and $253 million in additional tax revenue.
Jake also updated the council on air‑service trends: PSP has 32 nonstop seasonal destinations and can connect passengers to more than 300 global destinations with one stop; he announced five new routes for the coming season including Newark and seasonal service to Charlotte, Austin and Santa Rosa. He noted concession and terminal improvements, the installation of 80 EV chargers in Parking Lot B and a new public outreach portal (progresspsp.com).
Council members praised the report and noted PSP’s role as a regional economic engine. No formal council action was taken on the presentation.
