City Awards $447,327 Contract to Repave Olive Avenue

The Atwater City Council unanimously awarded a general construction contract for an Olive Avenue grind-and-overlay to Consolidated Engineering for $447,327, the lowest of six bids received.
Public works staff member Justin described the project limits (Olive Avenue between Wynton Way and the city limits with 50 feet of each intersecting street) and said the bid came in about $200,000 below the engineering estimate. "The city received six bids with the lowest bid coming from Consolidated Engineering at $447,327," Justin said, noting the contractor previously completed similar overlay work in the city.
Staff said work is anticipated in August and will last two to three days; residents will receive a notice about a month before work begins and final traffic control and notification will occur about 72 hours before the crews arrive.
Council raised concerns about potential speed increases after repaving near school crossings and asked staff to have the traffic engineer assess whether additional signage or traffic control is warranted at school access points following the overlay.
The motion to award the contract passed unanimously.
