Assistant Planner Gretchen Schollman presented the proposed 2026 schedule, which would set most meetings for the third Thursday of each month at 3 p.m. Commissioners debated whether to fix a single weekend each month for ease of public remembering; no conflicts were reported and a motion to adopt the schedule carried.
During later appeal hearings, commissioners raised policy problems that have surfaced during multiple VHR appeals — chiefly the 150-foot buffer and the process for verifying historic permit numbers or ownership. Several commissioners suggested the commission could forward recommendations to City Council, including exploring whether long-standing hosted-rental operators with clean records should be able to transition to full VHR permits.
Staff noted the City Council planned to consider VHR ordinance amendments after recent changes to council membership and said the amendments would return to council early next year. Commissioners encouraged gathering feedback and preparing recommendations in time for that council review.
