Nevada City Council approved a special‑event application to host the Heart of Gold Gravel Race on Oct. 18, 2025 and to cosponsor the event with the county.
Applicants representing Child Advocates of Nevada County, Bright Futures for Youth, YBONC and Heart of Gold Teen Therapy described logistics: event hours roughly 6:45 a.m.–4 p.m., setup beginning about 5 a.m., race start at Pioneer Park with rolling roadblocks of less than 10 minutes and use of the bandshell and Demons Lodge for facilities. Presenters requested a waiver of park‑related fees and explained that once approved they would notify affected businesses and residents with language approved by the Nevada City Police Department.
Presenters said proceeds historically total about $50,000 to $60,000 per year and are distributed across participating nonprofits to support teen mental‑health services. "The event every year raises, anywhere between 50,000 to $60,000 that is divided up amongst the agencies and serves the children of the community with mental health services," a presenter said.
Council moved, seconded and approved the special‑event application by roll call. The council encouraged public participation and thanked organizers.
