Compton council approves consent agenda, removes a commissioner and fills several vacancies

The Compton City Council on March 17 approved routine consent items, unanimously passing the consent agenda by electronic vote.
Under regular business, the council moved to remove George Contreras from the Commission on Aging; the motion was made, seconded and approved by roll call.
The council then considered appointments to several commissions and committees. The mayor nominated Shirley Bautista to the Commission on Aging; the council moved and approved the appointment by roll call. Walter Quinteros Pareto was approved for the Charter Review Board after a motion and second. Council member Darden nominated Sandra Moss for the Olympics Tourism Committee; the nomination was seconded and the council approved the appointment. A motion to appoint Miller Martin failed for lack of a second, and council members discussed bringing vacant positions back for consideration at a future meeting.
Council members also addressed minor record corrections for training and travel approvals (the department preparing minutes will correct a citation to attendance). The council recessed into other agenda items after confirming appointments.
Next steps: vacant seats will be re-noticed and some appointments may return to a future agenda for another vote.
