Board grants temporary faculty waivers to Griffin Hospital for practical nursing instructors

The Board of Examiners for Nursing approved two temporary faculty waivers April 1 that allow Griffin Hospital School of Allied Health and Careers to keep two instructors in full‑time faculty roles while they complete degree requirements.
Kayla Bennett, director of the practical nursing program, told the board that Sarah Leslie began with the program in April 2022 and taught students beginning in January 2023; Leslie paused graduate coursework for personal reasons and has one course remaining. Griffin requested a one‑year waiver to allow Leslie to finish her master’s program. Board member Cindy Arpin moved to grant a one‑year temporary waiver; the board seconded and approved the waiver by roll call (Mary, Elizabeth, Cindy, Camille and Chair Gina voted aye; Sal recused himself).
The board also approved a six‑month temporary waiver for Sean Remsen, an instructor finishing his master’s degree in May 2026. Bennett explained Remsen is graduating in May and teaches shared instructional hours; the board moved, seconded and approved the six‑month waiver by roll call.
Members reviewed regulatory limits on the number of faculty who may be on waivers and confirmed Griffin did not have other active waivers. The approvals were conditioned on the school’s plan to submit transcripts and documentation when the instructors complete their degrees.
