San Carlos library branch posts growth in visits, circulation and programs in FY 2024–25

San Mateo County Libraries reported systemwide and local gains in FY 2024–25: system visits and circulations rose, and the San Carlos branch recorded roughly 240,000 visitors, nearly 400,000 circulations and more than 21,700 program attendees, library staff told the council.
Adrienne Gass, community library manager for the San Carlos branch and a representative of the San Mateo County Libraries JPA, presented the system’s fiscal-year 2024–25 annual report to the San Carlos City Council on Feb. 9.
Gass said the countywide system recorded about 1,700,000 visits, roughly 2,400,000 items circulated and approximately 11,600 programs and events in the year. "We curate our offerings to meet the needs and interests of our community members and help them thrive," Gass said.
At the branch level, Gass reported 240,033 library visitors and 399,071 items circulated in San Carlos, plus 21,757 program attendances and 14,274 new cardholders. She also noted notable increases in digital services systemwide — 162,783 digital downloads in San Carlos and 23,343 hotspot checkouts — and highlighted partnerships (Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, Foundation for San Mateo County Libraries) and outreach such as the Maker Mobile and county fair activities.
Why it matters: The figures underscore sustained library demand for physical, digital, and outreach services following adoption of a new five‑year strategic plan, Gass said; council members thanked staff and volunteers.
What’s next: Gass invited questions and partnership on future programming and noted that staff will continue implementing the new strategic plan across the JPA.
