WCSD proclaims March 2026 National Nutrition Services Month and Women's History Month

The Washoe County School District board used its March 10 meeting to honor two monthly observances. Staff presented proclamations recognizing March as National Nutrition Services Month and Women's History Month in the district.
Adam Searcy and Tim Wilson highlighted the scale of the district's nutrition operation and the role of their vendor partner, Southwest Food Service Excellence (SFE). Wilson told trustees that through February the district had served approximately 1,600,000 breakfasts and 2,600,000 lunches during the school year, and he recognized longtime staff including field supervisor Shannon Brennaman and recently retired kitchen manager Cheryl Whalen.
Clerk Christine Hall read the nutrition proclamation on behalf of Superintendent Joe Ernst, noting district partnerships and the central kitchen and distribution operations. For Women's History Month, Chief Communications Officer Michelle Anderson introduced district women leaders on the dais and welcomed Krista McNeil, representing the Nevada Women's Fund; Trustee Smith read the proclamation and praised the district’s recognition by the Nevada Women's Fund as a strong workplace for women.
Both proclamations were presented for recognition (discussion only) and were followed by celebratory photos and acknowledgments of staff.
