The City of Desert Hot Springs swore in Jeffrey Hattersley as its new deputy police chief during the Jan. 20 council meeting.
Police leadership introduced Hattersley and his family before a ceremonial badge pinning by his wife, Christina. The council administered the oath of office.
In brief remarks Hattersley thanked Chief Shaw for the selection, described his 36 years in law enforcement (including 28 years with the Sacramento County sheriffs office and eight years with the Grants Pass Police Department in Oregon) and said he intends to emphasize community policing and problem-solving in Desert Hot Springs.
"I look forward to working with you, your staff, this great department and the community that we have here," Hattersley said after taking the oath, adding he wants to help make Desert Hot Springs "the safest place in Coachella Valley." Council members welcomed Hattersley and posed for photos following the ceremony.
