MANHATTAN BEACH — The Manhattan Beach City Council approved the meeting agenda in a voice vote and heard a public commenter recall family Holocaust history and urge the city to oppose immigration raids during its adjourned regular meeting Tuesday.
The council approved the agenda after a motion identified in the transcript as made by Council member Howard and seconded by Council member Tarnay; the vote was recorded as 5-0. Mayor called public comment next and allowed members of the public up to three minutes to speak. There were no Zoom requests to speak.
At the podium, a resident identified in the transcript as Scott described family members who survived concentration camps and said the date was Holocaust Remembrance Day. He told the council: “Please don't let that happen here in this country. Stop what's going on with the immigration raids. They're acting like Nazis, and we don't want this that in this country.” Scott introduced himself as a general contractor, a volunteer at the Bob Hope LAX USO, a Rotarian and a Cub Scout leader, and said he has helped build the Redondo Beach Community Center.
Council member Tarnay responded directly to the comments, saying she sympathized and agreed with the speaker and noted a recent trip to Hungary, saying it was important “to be reminded of our past so we don't repeat certain atrocities.”
The council then recessed into a closed session. The city attorney announced the closed session was held pursuant to the Brown Act to discuss three agenda items. After the closed session the city attorney reported that the council had "gave direction" on those items and that there was no other reportable action taken.
The council announced it would reconvene for an adjourned regular meeting and closed session on Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2026, and then adjourned.
