Summary
The council authorized staff to advertise construction bids for the Line C-1 storm drain project (City Project 6003). City Engineer Tim Jordan said the engineer's estimate is $6.2 million, the county has identified $8 million in total funding, and the work will replace about 4,800 linear feet of pipe and upsize it to 60 inches to meet a 10-year event standard.
City Engineer Tim Jordan presented the plans, specifications and engineer27s estimate for the Line C-1 storm drain project (City Project 6003) and asked the council to authorize staff to advertise for construction bids.
Jordan said the city27s engineer27s estimate for construction is $6,200,000 and described the current cooperative funding posture with the Riverside County Flood Control and Conservation District. "The current coop agreement with the county is for $3,800,000, however the county has identified $8,000,000 total for this project," Jordan said. He also noted the project will require three permanent or construction easements and is expected to replace roughly 4,800 linear feet of storm drain pipe.
The engineer explained the design increases pipe size from mostly 48 inches to 60 inches and upsizes catch basins and laterals to exceed a 10-year storm event; new pavement will be installed along the alignment. Jordan said anticipated construction timing is mid-spring through the end of the year, extending into the following year only if delays occur.
There were no public comments on the item. Council moved to approve the plan/specification/engineer estimate and to authorize staff to advertise the project for construction bids; the motion passed unanimously.
What happens next: Staff will return with bid results and an updated MOU with the county to reflect final project funding prior to awarding construction contracts.
